For Shy Ponies and Ponies in need of Friendship!Going to a convention can be just as scary for some attendees as it is exciting for others; whether you’re shy; you don’t have anyone to attend with; or if this is your first large event! We’ve put together an official Fluttershy Club where shy ponies can make friends with each other, and the solo ponies can find other people to hang out with.Everyone is welcome in the club, even if you’re not particularly shy, or already coming with someone else. If you’re part of a group coming to BUCK, it’s a great opportunity to meet new friends to add to those you came along with.A team of official Pinkie Pie Pals will lead the group and help everyone feel more welcome, as well as helping them find things to see and do around BUCK and the Summer Sun Celebration, and people to do it with! The Fluttershy Club will meet at a designated point throughout the weekend, so you’ll always know where to find them, and you can come and go as you please. We’re working on the exact schedule for these meeting times, but it’ll start out with a pre-SSC meet and greet at the local Wetherspoons, and another gathering once inside the venue. For now, we’re looking for volunteers to be our Pinkie Pies. You need to be kind, patient, and helpful – but the reward is to quite literally spread the magic of friendship!Sign up on our official forum at UK of Equestria (Here’s the Link!) to be a Pinkie, and feel free to say hello if you want to come along as a Fluttershy as well!

BUCK Events and You
What BUCK is, and where we’re goingHi everyone, I’m here today to talk about what BUCK is and where it’s going. We put out a tweet at the end of June saying that there were no current plans for BUCK 2015, to address a question that has been popping up more often, lately. This single tweet spread faster and wider than any other major announcement we’d ever done, eliciting a collective “OH COME ON…” from the BUCK PR department…So we thought we’d clarify exactly what we meant by explaining the difficulties BUCK faces, the alternatives we have, and what other things we’re thinking about.BUCK runs the largest budget for a convention of its size and kind in the world. Many people have asked us why we don’t move to a cheaper venue, or lower our equipment costs. Well the running costs all depend on exactly what kind of event you run. BUCK is a convention that delivers much more than simply a hall of people and some vendors. We provide a rich programme of entertainments and demonstrations to make BUCK not only a social experience, but something where people can learn, have a go, experience, and see how their passion is created. To do this, we need a venue that doesn’t simply hold a thousand people. We need it to have at least three function rooms that can all hold at least a quarter of the attendance – after all there’s no point in running events if only a few people get to see them – and the main hall requires a great deal of flexibility to hold either a seated or standing audience depending on which event is running. The Summer Sun Celebration alone holds a laundry list of requirements for power, infrastructure, acoustics, and more. We could run a room with a band and a few amps in it… but you can find that down your local pub. We want to immerse the audience in sound. At the Summer Sun Celebration in full swing, you’re not even on planet earth anymore. That’s what we’re doing at BUCK.All of these romantic ideas and sales lines make for a mind-blowing convention experience, but it severely reduces our venue options, and the price it comes at just grows every year. Sometimes we start feeling like we’re Applejack overthinking the Apple Family Reunion… and that’s why we’re going back to the drawing board once BUCK 2014 is over. But BUCK Events Ltd isn’t going anywhere. We’ll be running events next year, we just don’t know what yet. Planning BUCK 2014 is a full time occupation, meaning that most of us are effectively working two full time jobs… so we haven’t exactly had time to think about next year. We just know that it won’t be the same as BUCK ‘12 – ‘14. It could be a scaled-down version of BUCK, with fewer events and no SSC; or something completely different..So what was meant by that tweet? If you want to come and be a part of bonkers crazy off-the-chain BUCK, this August may well be your last chance!“What can I do to help BUCK?” you ask? Well we hear (and graciously appreciate!) support from many of our attendees, but last year and this year have both been close shaves, where it’s taken to the 11th hour to sell enough tickets to break even.To help BUCK, or even secure us the confidence to run full tilt next year, we need to comfortably meet targets. We offer premium tickets in the form of the 20% Cooler and Celestia tickets. These premium tickets cover half the cost of the convention and are critical to our survival. We’ve recently introduced the Elements: Generosity badge, a £20 donation badge that give a £5 donation to this year’s charity, and also a little boost to us.Telling your friends about BUCK, shouting about your attendance, and helping us get more people to attend is the best thing ever for us. Likes and upvotes are great to let us know that you like what we’re offering, but sharing it with others and spreading the word is what really helps!I’ll leave it there for now: we’re not vanishing after BUCK 2014, but our future is dictated by this year. If you guys can unexpectedly send our attendance figures spiraling upwards and our bottom-line figures into the safe zone (most events wouldn’t even run on margins like ours), that’s what’ll make BUCK 2015 a reality.

((MODS: This is important information… Read it! We Command you!))

BUCK Events and You

What BUCK is, and where we’re going

Hi everyone, I’m here today to talk about what BUCK is and where it’s going.

We put out a tweet at the end of June saying that there were no current plans for BUCK 2015, to address a question that has been popping up more often, lately. This single tweet spread faster and wider than any other major announcement we’d ever done, eliciting a collective “OH COME ON…” from the BUCK PR department…

So we thought we’d clarify exactly what we meant by explaining the difficulties BUCK faces, the alternatives we have, and what other things we’re thinking about.

BUCK runs the largest budget for a convention of its size and kind in the world.

That’s what we’re doing at BUCK.

All of these romantic ideas and sales lines make for a mind-blowing convention experience, but it severely reduces our venue options, and the price it comes at just grows every year.

Doodled up last night during Technomod’s livestream of the Mel Brooks classic Western spoof “Blazing Saddles”. We’ve been collectively having loads of fun imagining humanised versions of our pony characters in a typical wild-west frontier setting.
And how else could I fit a national symbol of the UK into a western setting than by co-opting another national symbol’s schtick? :P
I kid… after all, the Victorian period for the British in this context was all about empire and painting a quarter of the world pink (and exploitation and cotton) and before any Canadians get in a huff, Brit isn’t a Mountie in this pic. She’s a North West Mounted Police officer… a force that would later become the famous RCMP… so nerr, you get to keep your Benton Frasers and Britannia gets to wear an awesome hat.
So, yeah, Constable Britannia. Born in India to British parents and finding herself in the Yukon gold rush with an interesting career among the NWMP, policing the frontier, facing off against whisky smugglers, outlaws, ne’er-do-wells and kicking the natives into touch
Of course in trying to enforce the law at a time when such a thing was, at best, a half-hearted attempt at keeping the noise down, sometimes a mountie NWMP officer has to take advantage of that international jurisdiction and head south into the states.
I wonder what and who she’ll find down there.
Just to let you know, this is unlikely to go far beyond being a minor diversion: some art, maybe some RP and vignettes, but it was fun just to break out the graphics tablet and try my hand at some free-hand digital art. That and having a go at humans again for the first time in ages. There are a lot of issues with proportion and pose but maybe we can work towards that as we go along.
So go on Britty, you know what they say “A Mountie NWMP officer always gets their man. (Or woman… this AU seems to be a little more easy going on gender roles than the reality)

((MODs: Does this count as fanart or as canonical alternate universe?
Ah, who cares. Have some human Brit wearing a Mountie uniform in honour of Bronycan or something :p))
